Committee Chairman Andrii Shevchenko opened the meeting. He informed that Ukraine counted 13 million Internet users, while a broad access to the Internet is the only way of a country's survival and its integration into a media-cultural space.
Olena Bondarenko, Chair of the Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting, focused on the interrelation between freedom and responsibility of Internet users. The People's Deputy believes that the essential task in this sphere is to make users observe the laws which are not the laws de-jure.
Participants of the round table discussion are convinced that work of journalists and editors of Internet mass media should be based on ethical principles followed by numerous generations of journalists, such as respect for human right to free information access; protection of readership and social interests; protection of freedom and objective information collection and distribution; balanced approach to news coverage, effective separation of expert comments and advertising from the editorial materials.
Further to the discussion, the participants of the meeting passed the recommendations for the Internet mass media.
